Home › FIRE DOOR FIELD LABELING
Resolve missing or
incorrect fire door labels.
AES Performs field-labelling for installed fire and smoke doors and frames. The evalutaion determines whether and exisiting opening qualifes for on-site field labelling.

Label Applied When Eligible
COMMON LABELING ISSUES
The opening is installed.
The label is the issue.
A field-labeling evaluation may be appropriate when an installed fire door or frame cannot provide the certification information required for review.
Missing label
No visible certification label is present on the door or frame.
Damaged or obscured label
The existing label is painted over, damaged, removed or no longer legible.
Incorrect label
The label does not match the opening, rating or available listing information.
Field-modified opening
The door, frame, hardware or glazing has been altered after manufacturing.
ADVANCED ENTRY SOLUTIONS
AES coordinates the project.
and evaluates the opening.
AES manages the project details, site access and scheduling. AES evaluates each opening and determines whether it qualifies for field labeling.
Advanced Entry Solutions
- Collects the initial project information
- Helps identify affected openings
- Coordinates access and scheduling
- Keeps facility, project and AHJ stakeholders informed
THE OPENING AS A SYSTEM
What the evaluation covers.
The review considers the installed opening, its components and the records available to support its construction.
- Door and frame condition
- Existing certification markings
- Hardware, latching and closing components
- Glazing and vision-light components
- Field modifications
- Available plans, listings or manufacturer information
- Applicable ratings and code requirements
Have plans, product information or modification records? Include them with your request to streamline the pre-evaluation review.
HOW IT WORKS
How a field-labeling
request moves forward.
Scope, records and site access are confirmed before the evaluation. Each opening then receives a documented outcome.
Share the opening details
Provide the property location, affected openings, reason for the request and desired timeline.
Confirm scope and records
AES reviews the available plans, product information and known modifications, then coordinates the evaluation.
Complete the on-site evaluation
AES evaluates the door, frame, components and relevant opening conditions.
Correct documented deficiencies
If work is required, the findings identify what must be addressed before a labeling decision.
Re-evaluate and label if eligible
After required corrections, AES re-evaluates the opening to determine whether it qualifies for field labeling.
AFTER THE EVALUATION
A clear result for every
evaluated opening.
LABELING MET
Eligible for labeling
The opening satisfies the evaluation requirements and may receive a field label.
PENDING DEFICIENCIES
Corrections required
Specific deficiencies must be corrected before another labeling decision can be made.
Action Needed
Additional info required
Plans, listings or product records are needed to complete the evaluation.
Noncompliant
Not eligible
The opening cannot be field labeled and may require another corrective approach.

Is field labeling the same as an annual inspection?
No. An annual inspection evaluates the condition and operation of the door assembly. Field labeling determines whether an installed opening qualifies for an appropriate certification label.
Does a missing label mean the opening must be replaced?
No. A missing, damaged, or unreadable label does not by itself establish that the opening must be replaced. AES evaluates whether the opening is eligible for field labeling and whether corrective work or additional information is required.
Who evaluates the opening and applies the label?
AES coordinates the project, including scope, available records, site access, and scheduling. We can then perform the evaluation and apply the field label once the opening qualifies.
Does every opening qualify?
No. Eligibility depends on the opening’s construction, condition, available certification or listing information, field modifications, and our determination.
What should I provide before the evaluation?
